Alicia Stonebreaker painted this beautiful watercolor atop Dole Hill, above Norwich University, in Northfield, Vermont. View how she skillfully painted the sheet metal roofed barn with the stained and weathered barn wood. The grazing cow and surrounding pasture are filled with varying hues of color that highlight her immense depth of talent when working with watercolors. The top of this hill was a popular destination for the Norwich University Corps of Cadets. Most rook freshman cadets were made to run up this huge hill before breakfast each morning. During the weekends, many kegs of beer were swilled by the relaxing cadets on the same site. The Dole Hill barn burned to the ground (cause unknown) in 1977. Alicia captured this Vermont scene just before the fire, and it is the only known painting of the famous Dole Farm barn and hill top location. Many older Norwich Cadets will recognize this location and barn with both agony and fond memories.
