Lobster Feast, Portland, Maine

Title: Lobster Feast, Portland Maine       Watercolor

The watercolor painting by Maine artist Alicia J. Stonebreaker features a vibrant still life composition centered on a cooked red lobster in the foreground, its claws and body rendered with detailed texture and warm orange hues that contrast against the cooler tones of the background. Behind the lobster, a large clear glass jug with a handle sits prominently, its transparent form capturing subtle reflections and light gradients, evoking a sense of depth and realism through watercolor’s fluid medium. To the right, a brown bottle labeled “TILLADO Berry Mund Hall” stands tall, accompanied by a cluster of deep purple grapes spilling across the table, adding organic shapes and rich color pops that enhance the composition’s balance. A partially filled wine glass and a discarded cork nearby suggest a narrative of a casual meal or gathering, with the glass’s stem and liquid subtly distorted for perspective interest. Overall, Stonebreaker’s masterful use of color gradients—from the misty blue-green backdrop to the vivid foreground elements—and skillful perspective create a harmonious, inviting scene that highlights her expertise in capturing everyday objects with artistic flair.
