Artist Alicia J. Stonebreaker, Polish born and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, Poznan and the Kassel Art Academy in Germany, painted this beautiful floral on the difficult medium of rice paper. Her brush strokes were absorbed instantly by the delicate fibers of this unique medium. Fibers from the inner bark of woody plants such as kozo (mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi, and the outer layer of herbaceous plants such as flax, hemp, and jute, are used in manufacturing wide varieties of rice paper. In this great floral painting Alicia uses an abstract style to highlight her varying color hues and flowing use of light and shade.
