Monhegan Community Church, Monhegan Island, Maine

Giclee print from the original watercolor by artist, Alicia J. Stonebreaker

The watercolor painting “Monhegan Community Church, Monhegan Island, Maine” by Alicia J. Stonebreaker evokes a hushed, misty morning on the island, where a quaint church with a conical green roof and arched windows stands as the serene focal point amid enveloping fog. Flanking the church are modest green-roofed outbuildings and a low stone wall, surrounded by lush ferns, lobster traps, and blooming shrubs that add vibrant touches of green and subtle color to the damp landscape. A winding dirt path meanders through the foreground, bordered by wild grasses and clusters of delicate pinkish-red flowers, leading the viewer’s eye toward the shadowed pines rising in the background. Stonebreaker’s delicate washes of gray and teal create a dreamlike diffusion of light, capturing the isolated, timeless spirituality of this coastal New England haven.
